OUR STORY

Meet Allie August the founder, owner, & CEO of the online fashion brand Blush Ivy Boutique. Following examples from her grandparents and parents, all business owners, a grandmother with a love of retail, and a small town girl with big, big dreams, Blush Ivy Boutique became a reality in February 2021. What started during the outbreak of Covid-19 in her 500 sq foot basement with her grandmother Kathleen Holmes, who gave her a love for fashion, is now run in a facility by a team of close friends, who are more like family.

After honing her skills in the fashion industry for several years, Allie has developed a discerning vision for understanding clients' preferences and desires when it comes to boutique shopping. Although it took years to finally open, through diligent saving and determination, she managed to have enough money to purchase her first batch of inventory. Starting from scratch, she began her boutique journey hand packaging and shipping out every item by herself, overcoming obstacles and learning valuable lessons along the way. Day by day, step by step, it has all been apart of the journey, and a huge part of our story.

MEET ALLIE

Hey, I’m Allie! I’m from a small town right outside of Boston. I’m a huge animal lover! I absolutely adore my two cats (my daughters) Jazzy & Ella aka Bitty. Growing up, I always knew I was born for entrepreneurship, opening my first bank account around the age of ten. I started off making money through my creative, artistic abilities, selling to close friends and family, decorating hats with Swarovski crystals, putting together scrap books, etc.

I started helping my grandmother babysit my triplet cousins as infants, when I was only ten years old, along with cleaning my aunt and uncle’s house. We loved dressing them up, taking their pictures, and shopping for new baby clothes. As I grew older I took on babysitting responsibilities for multiple children, including watching them overnight and for extended periods of time, while the parents went on vacations. I was always very mature for my age.

From a young age, I willingly offered assistance to the secretaries at my father’s oil company. My organization skills and perfectionism helped. My grandfather knew my special talents, determination, and strong work ethic, he introduced me to the hectic atmosphere of my family’s diner. Despite my shyness as an adolescent/pre-teen, I couldn’t bear to let him down. I wholeheartedly accepted the challenge, even with the burden of anxiety weighing on me. Initially, my responsibilities involved assisting the waitresses, but as I grew more comfortable, I eventually took on the role of a server myself at the diner.

When I turned sixteen, I eagerly embarked on my first retail job, and it quickly became a genuine passion of mine. Among all my endeavors, I found retail work to be the most fulfilling. I became a workaholic. Saving up all of my money, (when I wasn’t spending it on clothes with my employee discount). Throughout my childhood and teenage years, I juggled various side jobs alongside my primary commitments, but my passion for earning money and engaging in work I loved through my chosen occupations never wavered. I have always believed that the key to a fulfilling life was built upon a foundation of loving what you do, and the key to such fulfillment was uncovered by tapping into your unique talents. I always said “I can’t wait to open up my own business someday.”

The “smartest man that I ever knew never spent a day in college, but he believed that I needed more than a small town knowledge.” Off to the University of Maine I went. Those were undoubtedly some of the most memorable and demanding years of my life. I had the privilege of meeting exceptional individuals who have since become lifelong friends, and their presence is something I deeply treasure.

During this period, I discovered my passion for painting, and the profound satisfaction it brought me through the process of transformation. In Maine I ventured into the realm of furniture flipping. I started refurbishing desks, tv stands, bedroom sets, tables, and many other pieces. This newfound passion became an inseparable part of my life. My love for painting extended beyond furniture and into the realm of houses, rooms, cabinets, and anything else that allowed for transformation.

Notably, I was the first in my family to attend a four year college, representing a significant milestone for me as a first-generation college student. Graduating with a Bachelor’s degree was a tremendous achievement, and although my grandfather was not physically present to witness my crossing of the stage, I could feel his ethereal presence, watching over me and undoubtedly beaming with pride.

After my grandmother’s house burnt in a fire, I returned from college to help care for her, as she came to live with me. Following my college graduation, I began on the journey of starting Blush Ivy Boutique. I turned my big dreams into reality in February 2021. With the unwavering support from my grandmother and a few close friends, I tirelessly built the business from the ground up, driven by nothing but a dream.

Fueled by a passion for fashion and the desire to empower women to feel beautiful and confident, I launched Blush Ivy to offer a curated collection of edgy, sophisticated, preppy, and chic styles that allow individuals to express themselves. Aimed at filling your closets with the latest fashion trends that combine uniqueness while ensuring everyday wearability. At Blush Ivy, we pride ourselves on our dedication to offer our customers with stylish pieces. For any inquiries, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at allie.august@blushivyboutique.com.

I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support received from those who have been with me on my journey, continue to support me, and will support me in the future. Your support truly means the world to me. When you purchase from a small business, you are not just buying an object, but investing in countless hours of experimentation, sleepless nights, and moments of pure joy. You are contributing to someone’s dream, their soul, and giving them another day to pursue what they love. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

XO Allie
